Mercedeze Rain Chocolates began with the creative passion of founder Patricia Schleg. Over 30 years ago, while working in her uncle’s confectionery shop, Patricia became fascinated with the delicate art of chocolate making, and was inspired by its power to delight. In 1993, she began crafting chocolates in her home kitchen, gradually building a loyal following through word-of-mouth and local artisan markets.
After raising her family, Patricia turned her long-time hobby into a full-fledged business, and in the process, learned a love for making fresh, small-batch ice cream. In June 2021, she opened a chocolate, ice cream, and coffee shop. The shop name, “Mercedeze Rain”, was derived from the middle names of her two daughters. Though a devastating fire in early 2023 destroyed the original location, it also spared a renewd focus on her greatest passion: creating premium, handcrafted chocolates.
Today, the Mercedeze Rain Chocolates and Ice Cream kitchen is located within the Main Street mercantile in downtown North Liberty, where Patricia continues to share her small-batch chocolates and ice cream with the community. She hopes they bring as much sweetness to your life as they do to hers.
